Free Fee-Paying Education

Free fee-paying education has been debated for years. Pros have a base that by freeing tuition fee, all of elements of society are able to have a good education. It means that no more poor people cannot go to school because of lack of fund. On the other hand, cons believe that best education needs more finances. They think best education needs best medium means more finances. I personally think that the government should free the tuition fees from kindergarten to higher education.
Each country has its own regulation of education. Indonesia has a noble aim as it is stated in the preamble of the constitution; to educate the life of the people. Young, old, male, female, all of people need education. In addition, Indonesian Constitution regulates many things related to the country, one of them is education. As in the second verse of article 31, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, stated that every citizen has the obligation to undertake basic education and the government has the obligation to fund this. Government has been estimating 20.2 % of APBN for education in 2012. That is a minimal amount of estimation of educational fund. For that reason, government should increase the amount of educational fund in APBN.

Education is not a commodity. Education is totally different with goods; it cannot be commercialized. RSBI, for instance, although it refers to international curriculum, it does not mean the fee must be equal as in overseas. Highly-cost education made a great gap between poor and rich. Once an institution requires unaffordable sum of money by underprivileged people, they cannot get better education as the rich gets. In short, education should not need amount of money.
The third reason is equalization in education. As it is stated in the ordinance no. 20 year 2003, article 5, that every citizen possesses chance to increase their education all the life. Therefore, people had better get good education. Education takes a big part in raising human resources. The more high-quality human resources Indonesia has, the sooner Indonesia becomes a developed country. That is why setting free-paying education is a good way to reach equalization in education.
I am the same mind of making tuition fees at no cost from kindergarten to higher education based on three reasons. They are regulation of education in this country, education is not a commodity and equalization in education. Moreover, achieving this objective requires support from all sides; government, teachers, parents and students.
