Writing
in Indonesia is not as famous as in the West. People in the West prefer write their ideas to speak. It is
totally different with Indonesian
whose people prefer speak to write. As a learner, we have to submit some kind of writing (such as journal, thesis,
book, etc) before graduating. In this case, there are many people who do not know how to produce a
good writing. Sometimes, they are confused what should they write and how to
start. Now, I would like to share to you how to compose a good writing.
First of all, pre-writing. You do brainstorming
in this step. You need to stimulate your ideas and decide what you are going to
write. This brainstorming requires you to focus either on finding the best idea
or build a good topic.
The second step is outlining. Developing your
topic by asking yourself questions. You could do with develop your idea into
diagrams. Make it as clear as you can. The more you detailed ideas, the easier
you will write in the next step.
Next step is drafting. Drafting is transforming
your outline into paragraphs. Write down all that you want to write and produce
sentences as many as possible. Ignore the punctuation, spelling, grammar and diction.
Just keep writing.
Coming to the next step, revising. This is the
most important stage of writing. It is not just a matter of checking
punctuation, grammar and spelling. It involves arranging, changing, adding and
leaving words. It also involves checking your writing, whether the sentences
you have written are orderly, appropriately, clearly and necessary or not. You
might revise your writing not only just once, but could be several times.
Then, the following stage is editing. Identify
the error spelling and consider it twice. Pay more attention in punctuation.
OK, the last step is completing. You have finished
all the steps; it means you almost complete your draft. You need to consider
three important characteristics of paragraphs development: coherence (chronological order of all
sentences), cohesion (all sentences are connected and support a topic sentence) and unity (all sentences relevant to a topic
sentence).
